CURRENT NVS FAQs

Dear NVS Families,
Happy Monday! As a reminder, Spring break is still scheduled for April 6th-10th. We do not have any new closure updates as of today. We understand Saddleback may make an announcement sometime tonight regarding closure dates.
PLEASE HELP US WITH A FEW ITEMS:
·Make sure your student is logged into their classroom on time. It is taking administration a lot of time to try and reach students by phone.
·If your student is going to be late, absent, or you need to report anything else to administration, you can call the office (949-455-1270), or email Sandi Carter or Jen Carrillo.

QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS
· What is the reason for following the bell schedule and the pacing guide?
We elected to follow the bell schedule so students would not fall out of their routine. Changes in expected routine can cause anxiety. We wanted to mitigate as much anxiety and change as possible.  We continue to follow the pacing guide for classes, although we have made accommodations to the amount of classroom work and homework. We are attempting to minimize adjustments so that students can stay on pace and have little to no summer make-up.
· Will students receive credit?
New Vista School is following our bell schedule, providing the daily instructional minutes required, taking attendance, and providing virtual classroom instructions so that our students continue to receive school credit. Our intention is to keep students on track and receive credit for work completed. We have not received word to the contrary.
· What do I do if my student falls behind?
Continue to communicate with your teachers. They can help get students back on track during homework support from 3:00 to 4:00. Accommodations can also be made.
· How can we adjust if the work is too much?
First, be sure you are communicating with your teachers. They can support when necessary. Second, minimize the homework. If it is too much, you can email your teachers and let them know to expect less homework. Third, you can drop a class if need be. We are looking into summer make-up classes as well. Also, students can retake a class the following school year if necessary. If too many accommodations are made, then the work will have to be made up at a later date anyways.
· Tutoring:
We are happy to email you a list of available staff for you to hire and work with.
· When is the school scheduled to reopen?
The tentative date for the campus to reopen is Monday, April 13th. However, there is a chance this may be extended to May 1st.
· What if school remains closed for the rest of the school year?
If the order is given to close the school for the remainder of the year, New Vista is prepared to continue with our remote learning program through June. Currently, there is a very small staff working at the school to support teachers, students, and parents. All of the personnel can work remotely if needed.
New Vista school wants to keep the students engaged so the loss of learning is minimal, We also hope to stay on pace with our academic calendar and not have to cut into any summer months, if possible. We know everyone is putting their best effort into the remote learning program. We know it is difficult for all families. If your situation requires more attention, please let us know and we can help work through a plan. Severely limiting class time and work will put everyone behind.  We are here to help!
Lastly, we will be sure to update you with any event cancellations that are scheduled on our Academic Calendar.

Students leave New Vista with a greater sense of confidence…

In the past 3 years I have witnessed firsthand the change that takes place within students who go through our Transition program. These students leave New Vista with a greater sense of confidence after having been given the opportunity to work in a real business and gain experiences in multiple community environments. With the proper training, attitude, and a little patience, these young adults can achieve any goals they set their mind to.

The options after graduation are now wide open for her…

Our daughter started New Vista in 7th grade with the plan that she would only stay there for her middle school years. We were so happy with her progress, that now, 5 years later, she is about to graduate. Thanks to the New Vista teachers and staff, she has blossomed socially and academically, and she has been able to participate in high school activities we never thought possible. The options after graduation are now wide open for her…

Thank you!

I can give you a story of my son’s journey but this quote basically sums it up. “You transformed an impossible child into an adult with possibilities.” Regarding plans after Noah graduates… NVS’ adult program. I’m excited to be participating at ground level with other senior parents and Ms. Donnelly. Thank you!

He received such a great education foundation…

I want to thank you all for the great job you all did with my son. He received such a great education foundation from each of you at NVS. He is doing a very good job at College. He is currently a “B plus” student on all his classes, and best of all, that he just received his first Math exam result of a 100% grade. I cannot be more proud of him and am very thankful to all NVS staff. Now he is a very responsible and independent college student.

Exceeded our expectations…

Our experience at New Vista School over the past 3 plus years has been outstanding. After trying three other schools and investigating many more, we found a school that “gets” our child. The teachers and administrators have created an individualized plan, both academic and behavioral, that has exceeded our expectations.

NVS Parent

Sincere thanks to the whole NVS Staff…

Our experience at New Vista has been night and day from our previous experience in the school district public system! Teachers in the public system repeatedly said our son was unable to read and comprehend third grade books. At New Vista, our son has read 33 books in the last 4.5 months – 82% of them at a grade level of 4.6. Sincere thanks to the whole NVS Staff for your dedication and commitment in helping these kids do better in life.
