Admissions Process

New Vista School (NVS) is a WASC accredited school that serves students in grades 6-12 and also offers a 12+ Adult Transition Program for students up to 22 years of age.

We welcome inquiries about potential enrollment year-round. A process has been designed to help us get to know your child and to allow you to become familiar with our school. To help clarify what this entails, please review the information below.

The Process

Step 1: Review Virtual Tour
Use this link to access a virtual tour hosted by our Director of Student Services, Juhi Sharma. https://www.newvistaschool.org/take-a-virtual-tour-of-nvs/

Step 2: Setting up a Parent Tour
Parent tours are generally set up between 9 am-12 pm, Monday through Friday. Our front desk will collaborate with you to determine the best date and time for this meeting. Please allow 1 hour for this meeting.

When contacting the school, please be prepared to provide as much information as possible so we can review your child’s educational background before your tour. This will include current IEPs, academic history (report cards/transcripts), psychological evaluations, and other related documents. All of this information, along with your parent tour, will help us determine if your student can benefit from the academic and social skills program offered by NVS.

Step 3: Parent Tour
The parent tour is a parent-only visit. This time allows you to learn about the program and see firsthand students and teachers interacting in our classes. Please know that during this time, we welcome your questions. We understand that considering a new school is a considerable decision as you determine the proper placement for your child. With that said, this is the perfect time to seek information about NVS as decisions are being made.

Step 4: Student Testing
All students being considered for enrollment must complete STAR testing to determine academic levels. Academics are not offered below a 3rd-grade level, although certain exceptions may apply.

Depending on availability, STAR testing may be scheduled either before setting the student visit dates or during the student visit.

Step 5: Student Visit
A student visit is required for all potential students. This visit may last 1-3 days and will provide your child with a firsthand experience of New Vista School. During the student visit, he/she will interact with peers and experience classroom expectations. Our staff will have the opportunity to observe, assess, and interact with your child. We will meet with you at the end of the student visit. (Please note that students participating in a student visit need to be in New Vista approved attire during their visit. This information will be provided prior to the visit.)

Step 6: Admissions Decision
Following the school visit, staff observations are collected and shared with the school Administration. Once the administration has reached its decision, an email will be sent to you notifying you of its determination.

Step 7: Acceptance of Offer/Enrollment
Once enrollment has been offered and accepted, a start date will be determined. Before that date occurs, parent(s) need to complete all required admissions paperwork and confirm tuition or district/LEA funding arrangements.

Additional Information

Classroom Ready
Students considered for enrollment at NVS must be classroom-ready. This means they not only need to be ready academically, socially, and behaviorally, but also to access classroom instruction for 50 minutes throughout the day.

Academics
Students must be able to participate in academic instruction aligned with California Content Standards, whether on a diploma or certificate track.

Additional Support
There may be times when school acceptance requires additional support. If this is the case for your child, it will be noted in the acceptance email and the formal acceptance letter. This additional support may include a probationary period, a support plan, or an aide. These tools are sometimes needed to ensure a smooth transition with appropriate support to find success at New Vista School.

Expectations
Students are expected to meet school-wide behavior expectations within the established positive behavior-support system. Continued enrollment depends on maintaining appropriate behavior and meeting school policies. Parents/guardians agree to support school procedures, fulfill volunteer commitments, meet communication expectations, and fulfill any required financial obligations.

Anti-Discrimination Policy
New Vista School admits students of any race, color, national origin, and ethnic origin to all the rights, privileges, programs, and activities generally accorded or made available to students at the school. It does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, or ethnic origin in the administration of its educational policies, admission policies, scholarship programs, and other school-administered programs.

Students leave New Vista with a greater sense of confidence…

In the past 3 years I have witnessed firsthand the change that takes place within students who go through our Transition program. These students leave New Vista with a greater sense of confidence after having been given the opportunity to work in a real business and gain experiences in multiple community environments. With the proper training, attitude, and a little patience, these young adults can achieve any goals they set their mind to.

The options after graduation are now wide open for her…

Our daughter started New Vista in 7th grade with the plan that she would only stay there for her middle school years. We were so happy with her progress, that now, 5 years later, she is about to graduate. Thanks to the New Vista teachers and staff, she has blossomed socially and academically, and she has been able to participate in high school activities we never thought possible. The options after graduation are now wide open for her…

Thank you!

I can give you a story of my son’s journey but this quote basically sums it up. “You transformed an impossible child into an adult with possibilities.” Regarding plans after Noah graduates… NVS’ adult program. I’m excited to be participating at ground level with other senior parents and Ms. Donnelly. Thank you!

He received such a great education foundation…

I want to thank you all for the great job you all did with my son. He received such a great education foundation from each of you at NVS. He is doing a very good job at College. He is currently a “B plus” student on all his classes, and best of all, that he just received his first Math exam result of a 100% grade. I cannot be more proud of him and am very thankful to all NVS staff. Now he is a very responsible and independent college student.

Exceeded our expectations…

Our experience at New Vista School over the past 3 plus years has been outstanding. After trying three other schools and investigating many more, we found a school that “gets” our child. The teachers and administrators have created an individualized plan, both academic and behavioral, that has exceeded our expectations.

NVS Parent

Sincere thanks to the whole NVS Staff…

Our experience at New Vista has been night and day from our previous experience in the school district public system! Teachers in the public system repeatedly said our son was unable to read and comprehend third grade books. At New Vista, our son has read 33 books in the last 4.5 months – 82% of them at a grade level of 4.6. Sincere thanks to the whole NVS Staff for your dedication and commitment in helping these kids do better in life.
