New Vista School Closure Information

Dear New Vista Parents & Guardians,

Out of an abundance of caution and concern for the health and well-being of our school community, and after collaborative conversations with the Orange County Department of Education, and with the support of our Board of Directors, New Vista School has made the decision to close the school from Monday March 16th through Friday March 27th, 2020.

We will temporarily transition from on-campus learning to remote learning effective Tuesday, March 17th, 2020 through Friday, March 27th, 2020. School is anticipated to resume on Monday, March 30th, 2020. Spring break will continue as scheduled for April 6 – 10, 2020.

We are suspending on-campus learning at the conclusion of classes on Friday, March 13, 2020.  Students will not report to the school for regularly scheduled classes. On Tuesday, March 17th, 2020, we will begin the Remote Education Plan developed by our Faculty, Technology, and Leadership teams.  Detailed instructions will follow.  We will be following the school bell schedule so students can log into a virtual classroom at their regular scheduled class time.  Breaks, lunch, and clubs/electives will be on your own time.

All administrative and teaching staff will be on campus Tuesday March 17th to begin virtual class instruction.  Any parent that requires student text books or Chromebooks can pick them up at the school on Tuesday the 17th during the following time blocks:  12:00 to 3:00 pm and 5:00 to 7:00 pm.  Please email Tyler Lowenthal if you will be stopping by the school. tlowenthal@newvistaschool.org

This is a proactive closure: There are no confirmed cases of COVID-19 in our school community. Please know that we are also mindful of the childcare challenges for a number of our families, the disruption of routines, and the technological and logistical challenges of implementing a distance learning plan. However, the health and safety of our school community has been, and will continue to be, our number one priority. This decision is made out of great respect for New Vista School.

We may have staff available for additional tutoring support and childcare.  Please email Jen Carrillo at jcarrillo@newvistaschool.org.  (This would be a private arrangement between the two parties)

Monday March 16th, 2020

  • School is closed for Spring Recess Day.  No Administration or staff will be on campus.

Tuesday, March 17th – Friday, March 27th, 2020

  • Teachers will be running classes through Google Classrooms and Google Hangouts.
  • Families can pick up text books and Chrome books if needed from 12:00 to 3:00 PM and 5:00 to 7:00 PM.  Please inform Mr. Lowenthal if you will be stopping by the school. (tlowenthal@newvistaschool.org)
  • You will receive more detailed information about daily assignments with guidelines and expectations for your student over the next several days. Please look for regular communication from Constant Contact and your student’s teacher(s), as well as our “New Now” tab on our website, newvistaschool.org.

Monday, March 30th, 2020

  • School resumes on campus as normal
  • This is contingent on further notices from Orange County Health and our districts.

Monday, April 6 – Friday, April 10, 2020

  • New Vista school will be closed for Spring Break as scheduled.

WHAT ARE THE EXPECTATIONS DURING SCHOOL CLOSURE?
While distance learning may look and feel different, it is still school. Daily attendance and participation are required and are important. Again, you will receive more detailed information from your school site with guidelines and expectations over the next several days.

HOW CAN I STAY HEALTHY?
We encourage you to practice good hand-washing hygiene and stay away from large social settings. Doing so will not only keep you and your family healthy, but also keep our school community safe upon your return to campus.

HOW CAN I EDUCATE MY CHILD FURTHER ABOUT COVID-19?
Please talk to your children and reinforce that COVID-19 does not discriminate on the basis of gender, religion, race, country of origin or any other parameters. Please share your knowledge with your children and explain what actions are being taken to contain the virus. Please share this BrainPOP video with your children.

We will be sending regular updates via One Call Now or Constant Contact and our website as this situation continues to develop.

Thank you for your support.

Sincerely,

New Vista school

Students leave New Vista with a greater sense of confidence…

In the past 3 years I have witnessed firsthand the change that takes place within students who go through our Transition program. These students leave New Vista with a greater sense of confidence after having been given the opportunity to work in a real business and gain experiences in multiple community environments. With the proper training, attitude, and a little patience, these young adults can achieve any goals they set their mind to.

The options after graduation are now wide open for her…

Our daughter started New Vista in 7th grade with the plan that she would only stay there for her middle school years. We were so happy with her progress, that now, 5 years later, she is about to graduate. Thanks to the New Vista teachers and staff, she has blossomed socially and academically, and she has been able to participate in high school activities we never thought possible. The options after graduation are now wide open for her…

Thank you!

I can give you a story of my son’s journey but this quote basically sums it up. “You transformed an impossible child into an adult with possibilities.” Regarding plans after Noah graduates… NVS’ adult program. I’m excited to be participating at ground level with other senior parents and Ms. Donnelly. Thank you!

He received such a great education foundation…

I want to thank you all for the great job you all did with my son. He received such a great education foundation from each of you at NVS. He is doing a very good job at College. He is currently a “B plus” student on all his classes, and best of all, that he just received his first Math exam result of a 100% grade. I cannot be more proud of him and am very thankful to all NVS staff. Now he is a very responsible and independent college student.

Exceeded our expectations…

Our experience at New Vista School over the past 3 plus years has been outstanding. After trying three other schools and investigating many more, we found a school that “gets” our child. The teachers and administrators have created an individualized plan, both academic and behavioral, that has exceeded our expectations.

NVS Parent

Sincere thanks to the whole NVS Staff…

Our experience at New Vista has been night and day from our previous experience in the school district public system! Teachers in the public system repeatedly said our son was unable to read and comprehend third grade books. At New Vista, our son has read 33 books in the last 4.5 months – 82% of them at a grade level of 4.6. Sincere thanks to the whole NVS Staff for your dedication and commitment in helping these kids do better in life.
